Wayne Butscher @ 8:57 pm:

Hi there,
Nice website. I own a Dir-451 which works great with the Sierra AirCard 875 that I used to have. I returned it to save money on the monthly ATT bill. Now I have a PDA max with tethering plan. Needless to say when I saw the Dir-451 could be used via the USB port with certain phones, I got excited and tried to do the same with my HTC Hermes (Cingular/ATT 8525). So far with no success. Any ideas? Thanks!
Wayne

Administrator @ 9:54 am:

Hello Wayne,

I think the HTC 8525 is not yet supported with the current firmware, maybe in the future it will be supported or if someone will come up with a hack to support phones other than what was listed in the UI page. anyway, just visit this site often because i will update this page whenever i’ll find solution to your problem.

I will have more stuff related to this device to post here. so stay tuned. btw, to all my blog readers, Thank you for visiting this blog, just keep sending your comments and request.

Eugene Robertson @ 8:09 am:

Everyone needs to beware that this device has issues with the Sierra Wireless AC860 card. I purchased this and had to return the first one within the week. It keep dropping my broadband connection. Tech support said it was defective. I got another one after a week and the same thing happened. I have a friend who has an AC875 and tried it and works great. Until D-Link does something to fix the 860 issue I would not advise anyone to purchase until you have an 875 card.

Mohamed Saloojee @ 6:34 am:

I have Cingular 875 Aircard with DRI-451, Firmware is 1.01. The connection to the Provider Drops every 2 to 3 minutes. Tried using thecard with a Laptop and the connection is alive for the entire day without any disconnects. That is the same physical location where I have the DIR-451. On the Admin console shows that I have 5 to 6 bars of signal and the connection still drops. Any ideas whet could be wrong ?

sad @ 11:53 pm:

is there a firmware for that D-Link to support starhub user?

Batman @ 3:11 pm:

sorry but i am not familiar with starhub but if they support any of the card name above using either of the two modes (UTMS, HSDPA) then there’s a chance that it will work with the current firmware. your best bet is to ask starhub though.

Ken @ 4:51 am:

i hv a USb 3G huawei with celcom in malaysia but the problem is me connected to internet the status say so… but i cannot access internet

Batman @ 11:24 am:

Please check your browser settings, and try to check if you can ping outside your network or your providers network also try to do traceroute so you will know until what hop you have connection.

It is still best to call your provider’s tech support.

Ezzat Ski @ 12:22 pm:

Hey. I’m using Celcom Broadband Huawei E220 and trying to connect to my D-Link Dir-451 and i tried connecting but it cannot be connected. I’ve set up everything but it Still can not be connected.

And i called the ISP and they said its not to their authority to tell us .

What i think : Maybe it’s because of the ever-changing IP that they give.

Batman @ 10:01 pm:

I’m sorry but i am not familiar with celcom broadband service, try to check your router log for connection details and see if you can get a clue from there.

I am sure it has nothing to do with dynamic ip allocation, DIR-451 is able to handle that well.

Mike Carey @ 8:20 am:

I called D-Link support and was told the D-Link DIR-451 3G Mobile Router does not operate with a USB modem. I was told the USB port on the unit is for connection to a computer or other device. Not for internet modem in.

I am interested in using Smart Bro Wireless with a pc, Vonage modem and laptop (not simataneously of course). I do not have the Smart Bro Wireless modem yet.The modem is shown as a USB modem in Smart’s advertising. The brand of USB modem ?
Does anyone have actual experience with a Smart Bro Wireless USB modem and a 3G router?

Batman @ 7:18 pm:

I have a very bad experience with pldt weroam which i think shares the same facility with smart bro wireless usb

The website here stated that it*Support HuaWei 3G Modem Model E220, E270.
http://www.dlink.com.my/products/dlhome.asp?sec=0&pid=547

Batman @ 7:51 am:

it could be supported but maybe unstable, i am not sure of that though since i haven’t tried using it with usb types. unless someone will send their lurking hardware to me. :D

HeartBeat @ 1:53 pm:

There is a new firmware for DIR-451 just came today and to my surprize just after I emailed D-Link about the disconnect problem that I have. That was very fast .. I am going to install it now and I hope it fix the disconnect problem. I will update you.

Batman @ 8:05 pm:

HeartBeat,

Thanks for the info, can you give me a copy of that firmware so i could post a link here.

Thanks

HeartBeat @ 3:56 am:

Batman,

I have very good news! I installed the new firmware and at least for the last 12 hours I have not got a single disconnection. I hope it stays this way.

You can download the new firmware here http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DIR%2D451

Make sure you download the one dated 1/10/2008 “Fixed DDNS”.

Below are the steps of upgrading:

1- Make sure you connect the D-Link using the cable directly to your PC (never do the upgrade over the Wireless)
2- Take the 3G card off the D-link
3- Access your D-link through your browser. The default address is 192.168.0.1
4- Enter Username and Password. Defaults are admin/admin
5- Click on Tools then Firmware on the left hand side menu
6- D-link will show you the current information of your firmware. Click on Browse and select the firmware file that you have just downloaded. (Make sure you unzip it once it is downloaded)
7- Wait till it is updated and double check that the new firmware info is now showing (you need to log in again).
8- Disconnect, take the cable away, insert your 3G Card, connect and enjoy.

Regards,

Batman @ 7:17 am:

HeartBeat,

Thanks a lot for sharing us your findings, It will greatly help a lot of D-Link DIR-451 3G Mobile Router users including me. I highly appreciate your effort on this and my hats off on you.

Mark Eswar @ 12:24 am:

Hi PPL,

Im using this device but its remains idle after a while…ive checked the the modem and router is connected to the net, but i wont be able to surf…ive to disconnect and reconnect to surf. This happens all the time. Can someone help plssss.

M.E.

HeartBeat @ 1:36 pm:

Mark,

If your problem is a constant disconnection of internet then upgrade your firmware as per my previous post http://seoroot.com/blog/networking/d-link-dir-451-3g-mobile-router/#comment-450

or may be you need just to change the location of the D-Link ! before few days and all of the sudden everything was connected ok but I was not able to Surf the internet .. then I figured out that the 3G card was not happy with the location so I moved it to another corner in the room and it worked! May be some interference or something.

Hope this helps

HeartBeat @ 5:30 am:

Batman,

I need your opinion about this one please!

Just all of the sudden, my 3G DIR451 is not allowing the connected PCs to access Internet. I did not change anything in configuration it just happedn suddenly.

At the same time, I came to hear that our ISP now has its own 3G proxies selling them for big $$.. So my question is it possible for my ISP to detect that I am using the 3G card in a router and then deny the internet access from it (forcing us to buy thier brands) ? I am just suspecting that since I did not change anything with the proxy and all of the sudden no more internet.

Note: the 3G card works fine when connected alone to the laptop.

Batman @ 5:51 am:

HeartBeat,

If could be possible, but theres only one way to find out, do traceroute to outside your network ip, for example you can do this in command prompt “tracert 4.2.2.2″ and see if you’re able to pass through your router. if not then its a router problem, try to check NAT if it is still enable. you can also try to hard reset your router but that will going to erase your current router config but with greater possibility that it will solve the problem, assuming that your ISP has nothing to do with your problem.

Ali @ 3:40 pm:

I got new DIR 451, during installing I was able to brwose the html page 192.168.0.1, but sudenly the page disappeared, I tried to hard rest and reconnect but sofar not getting this page, I have also disable all fire wall and chnaged the laptop, but no success. Can any one give advice, please.

sue @ 9:09 am:

Can someone tell me how to add a new ISP that is not listed? I am out here in Saudi Arabia where I bought my DIR-451, but they are not included on the ISP list. Also, for those using the Huawei E220, did you just use the USB port on the backside or did you need some kind of adapter? If so, what kind did you get?

Mark Eswar @ 1:42 pm:

Same problem HB, ive sent twice for factory warranty.Waiting for the DIR to come back to me by 13th Feb. I think its probably coz of the ever unstable celcom connection…lets c when it arrives

Yussaini @ 1:11 am:

I failed to connect with my dlink, i’m using sierra 875 aircard, can some one please help me?

Keith @ 10:22 am:

I have the DIR 451 with Sierra 875 card. I have never been able to get through to the home network, which is connected using the DIR 451, from computers elsewhere on the Internet. I can neither connect directly to the router or via rdp to my machine on the network. I have done this many times over cable networks but my new home does not have cable or DSL so the cellular network is our primary access to the Internet. I am using DLink’s DDNS service to track my IP and associate it with a domain name. I noticed the recent firmware upgrade is supposed to fix DDNS issues. Does anyone know if the DDNS issue that apparently exists with the old firmware could be my real problem? Has anyone actually achieved a remote connection in a setup like mine? I am going to do the firmware upgrade this evening and hope it works. Also, has anyone ever successfully connected the Cingular (AT&T) 8525 via usb to the DIR 451 and used it to gain access to the Internet? I have both the Sierra card and the 8525 and am wondering if the two devices can be bonded to achieve a higher connection rate. Appreciate any advice anyone might have.

Pauline @ 2:12 pm:

My DIR 451 stopped working so I upgraded the firmware. I had internet access for the evening but the next morning the problem came back. Now what do I do?

Tor @ 6:42 pm:

I am experiencing problems with getting connected wireless between the box and my laptops. Wire connection proves rather stable E220 connection to HSDPA, but for some reason my laptops don’t recognize the wireless connection at all. I have been trying WEP so far.

Jafferyousuf @ 11:32 am:

Hello To All,

Any one help me?…

I am having D-Link DIR-451 & Sierra Wireless Aircard 875, till i post my net was working fine after i saw Batman said to upgrade you Firmware from 1.01 to 1.02 after upgrading i cannot able to access internet it’s asking to configure your internet connection. Now my main problme it’s asking me to seclect country-isp-card, but in country list i cannot found KUWAIT.

Please any one try to help me!!!!!!!!!!!…..

Tahnks Jaffer

Batman @ 10:46 pm:

@Tor, What do you mean your laptop doesn’t recognize your connection? are you able to see your SSID, can you connect to it?

@Jaffer, who is your ISP, you may want to ask them for the settings. If its working before then there should be no reason for your router not to work after the upgrade assuming that the upgrade just went fine.

zamans98 @ 6:37 am:

hi guys

Dlink direct emulator. before you all upgrade the firmware, please check this page:

http://support.dlink.com/emulators/dir451/index.htm
no password needed.

TIP : Read carefully

for those who is using Sierra875/860 card, make sure you select USA Cingular. No matter which country you’re from.
Next, please change the APN to suit your ISP.

Leave the rest blank *unless your ISP provide you with username+password

DO NOT configure when you’re on wireless mode. Use hardwire (LAN Cable)

Another trick for Sierra875/860.

Download latest 3Gwatcher software. Remove old software, and remove your card. Next reboot PC and reinstall the new software.
Then only insert the card in. Next step is load the software. see what profile is there. If you have 2 profile, set the correct one to main profile. Set that profile to AUTOCONNECT.

Good luck guys!

zamans98 @ 6:43 am:

hi Jaffer

choose USA Cingular.
fill in if your ISP provide you with username+password. then change the APN to suit your ISP.

Leave the rest of the setting as it is.

So far it works for me.

To jaffer,

I think you should just use manual configuration and use any country’s settings with the same Data Card. and make sure your user name, password and APN right.
tell me it works.

Aldinoz @ 2:19 am:

wow i think the problem is in the sierra card too. this instruction by zamans98 really solved the disconnection problem with the dir-451. worked like a dream.

Claudio-kun @ 4:20 am:

Finally got my hands on DIR-451 (bought in Indonesia).

Tested yesterday in ITALY, using HUAWEI E220 (USB) on VODAFONE network.

Works fine. Just had to use a different Country/Provider setting where E220 was listed, because under “Italy” only “Telecom Italia Mobile” and “Sierra Wireless Aircard 865″ where present.
The important thing is to input the right connection info (username, password, APN and number).

Now I have WiFi connection available to laptop and handheld, plus wired ethernet access for the Xbox. Cool :D

konteinar @ 6:28 am:

The E220 usb works fine in thr dir-451. Just configure your router with the connection details and it will bring it on-line.

Help…

My DIR-451 was installed with firmware dated 28 March 2008, but still can properly connected with Sierra Wireless 875.

Indra

Did you find out how to fix your problem? I have done exactly the same as you …. :( i Cant access the DIR-451 vai the web and can not ping it…..?!

miles @ 9:12 am:

As in my new DIR-451 out-of-the-box didn’t find Vodafone Australia settings using E220, I upgraded firmware from v1.01 to v1.02 WW B0021. Then, the Internet setting was easy without any problem and worked fine but for 30 mins only, afterwards it kept rebooting without functioning. Disconnected everything and power on-off many times is still the same rebooting as long as it has power. Pressing “Reset” button for more than 10s has no effect. DHCP is not working and I assigned fixed IP to my notebook, it can be pinged successfully for around 10s in every rebooting cycle, but http://192.168.0.1 is not responding at all times. Hence, I have no chance to login to Configuration Utility again and can’t try other firmware versions. No clue if it is firmware issue or h/w defect or something else.

Anyone can help? Thanks a lot.

Just got my DIR-451 with 1.02_eu firmware (I live in Finland), and the problem is that in datasheet at ftp://ftp.dlink.eu/datasheets/DIR-451.pdf, and at the back of the retailbox is said that Sierra Aircard 850 is compatible with device, i cannot choose it from configuration. There is only few usb-modems and sierra 865 to choose. Browsed in dlink webpages and found out that 850 is supported under Singtel in Philippines. Can i flash my device with firmware found on Philippenes dlink webpage to get my aircard 850+DIR 451 combination to work? Or there any other way to change country setting in DIR-451?

kok_fah @ 5:15 pm:

guys~~ guys!! i had the same problem with the router earlier… but hear me.. maybe this can help. i am using maxis broadband, actually i have of the connection. one for my GF and on for my own. with two “VPN”, one of them is ‘maxisbb’ the other ‘unet’. i tried to set them one by one and tried. well.. i manage to online according to which VPN and which sim card. for example, VPN-1 with SIM 1, and VPN-2 with SIM 2. i cannot connect to the internet with SIM 1 and VPN-2, same to the SIM 2 with VPN-1. so, when i switch SIM cards, i change the VPN according to which SIM card i use, understand??? the key is VPN. i dunno about the one with celcom.. maybe they have other VPN name. try and ask them. this works for me.. as i have two kind of VPN settings.. and the settings are the same.. name and passwords for connections.. just the VPN. goodluck, cheers.

kok_fah @ 5:21 pm:

one more thing by the way.. in the drop down selection of the router, i couldn’t find the ‘huawei e220′ for maxis. so, i tried using celcom and chose huawei e220.. guess what.. SUCCESS. maybe this help those who don know this.

kok_fah @ 5:34 pm:

hhmm… i should say all things at once. well, for the disconnection of huawei e220 USB modem. i had the same problem B4.. disconnection. then i tried to update the firmware of the modem and now it is doing better without much problems. try this site : forum.mypdacafe.com/viewtopic.php?p=194742 i found my update here. warning: this update process cannot be reversed!! try at your own risk. i suggest those who applied package - eg: maxis broadband package don’t do this… u will lose all the dashboard which is supplied with the modem. hhmm.. or maybe u just update the driver without updating the dashboard. well.. that is too late for me.. i downloaded ‘three’ UK dashboard.. it won’t connect. now, i updated the new one.. no problem. but the dashboard… gone.

kulskul @ 10:33 am:

hi, i updated the firmware of my DIR-451 which was shipped with 1.01SEA firmware. i downloaded 1.02 firmware from singapore support site. now, after updating my router, it seems not to work anymore. i cant connect to it thru LAN and i cant enter the settings page. is this router screwed or there is a way to recover it.

any help will be appreciated…

thanks…

Cath @ 3:01 pm:

By any chance, can you recommend a 3G data card adaptor cable that I can connect to an external antenna for something like the Huawei E620 3G/HSDPA card? I’ve been looking for one all over Manila, but can’t find any in shops…

It would be great if I could get this working along with the mobile router. :)

Hi there…

Before this…i’m using Dlink DI-524 n my DVR was connected through same router. I just enable DMZ for my DVR at the DI-524. I can access the DVR anywhere.

Now… trying to used Maxis Broandband Modem through Dlink DIR-451. Enable the DMZ as before but fail to access through internet.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks….

Batman @ 2:00 pm:

Hi,

make sure that no filtering rule is blocking the traffic from getting through your wan and dmz’d address, if your ip is dynamically assigned, meaning, everytime your ip leased expired, you get a different ip address and you will not be able to used the previous ip assigned to your router. if that is your case then i suggest you signup with dyndns.org for dynamic dns service which will auto update the ip address of the hostname you have created to access your server outside your network.

swift700 @ 2:12 am:

sorry bro…

seems like not blocking anything
using dyndns already…

I saw comments on this board stating they had the same problem and upgraded the DIR-451 firmware to the 1.2 version and it fixed the problem. I did that and it didn’t fix the problem. I upgraded the 875 firware to the latest and that didn’t help. As a last resourt I disabled the Auto-Reconnect option which disables the keep alive option. Well it stopped dropping the connection. So then I enabled the Auto-Reconnect and entered www.google.com in the keep alive server 1 box instead of using the default which was www.dlink.com. Everything seems to be working fine. So it seems that the dlink.com site is causing my dlink to drop the connection when it executes the keep alive command. Hope this helps anyone that is having this problem.

I had the same problem of the WWAN card dropping every 2-3 min. I have a Sierra Wireless 881 card. I switched the KeepAliveServer to www.google.com and the system is staying up with no problems.

I had the same problem as John( 875 card shutting off and coming back on every 3 to 4 minutes) I used Johns fix and it does work now. Thanks John. Dont know when this started. All this happened when I had to reset the DIR 451,install the latest firmware, and was having problems with the G3 service. I have windows XP. The ATT level 2 tec service operator had me go to CMD(run) type netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt (enter) Then netsh winsock reset (enter). Could this have caused the problem?

I bought a DIR 451 but I can’t configure it. When I type 192.168.0.1 don’t get anything. I have spent hours with tech support US and nothing. There are signs of connection since the #1 light flashes when I try to access it.
Any ideas?
Is there any way of uploading a new firmware if I can’t get to the configuration page?

hi, i am trying to connect the DIR 451 WAN port to a computer with internet access but i am quite confuse with the settings. Can anyone help me out?

Ulf Naslund @ 3:45 am:

I think this is a timing problem. At least it was in my case. I got a new sim-card from three (in sweden) and got this problem. It seems that after you enter the pin-code you must wait a bit, before you try to get a ppp-connection.
My solution is to remove the pin-code from sim-card and add some @-characters in the phone-number) “@@@@*99#” in my case. The @-character makes a delay for 5 seconds.

Hi,

I have a Dlink mobile wireless router DIR-412 compliant with HSUPA/HSDPA/EV-DO/TD-SCDMA

I have tried to share an internet package on an MTN USB modem that supports GPRS/EDGE/3G/HPDPA usind the above router, but i have failed with the configuration.

I have been advised to put only APN yellopix.mtn.co.ug and dial up no *99# but everything is in vain.

I have a D-link DIR-412 for 3g. my carrier is US Cellular. I cant get it to work. it is connected without internet access. I contacted support and find that I problems with network settings, US CELLULAR will not help me…. can you???

Nigerian Chief @ 7:47 am:

The statement from D-Link is not correct. I connected my Huawei E220 modem and it worked fine. Your settings may be wrong. Also do not attempt to flash your router because I did and it spoilt an anotherwise good router.
